5 Tips: These LGBTQIA+ book tips are perfect for cozy fall evenings.

LGBTQIA+ book tip: When the days get shorter, among other things, many queers also start looking for the appropriate literature. If you're in the mood to discover LGBTQIA+ books and the corresponding plots for yourself, you can also look forward to a mix of true classics and new works in the fall of 2023.

By the way, many of the books are of course also super suitable to be presented as a gift. But which works are currently popular and trendy?

Due to the large selection, everyone will surely find at least one protagonist with whom he/she can identify. Now it is actually only important to get a small overview of the available options... and there are more than enough of them.

(The order of the following book tips is purely random and bears no relation to sales figures or the like).

LGBTQIA+ Book Tip No. 1: Stone Butch Blues - Dreaming into the Waking Morning

LGBTQIA+ Book Tip

This book is a true classic of LGBTQIA+ literature. Stone Butch Blues is set in 1960s Buffalo. The protagonist, Jess Goldberg, lives here during her childhood and adolescence. She was born a biological girl, but looks like a boy. At some point, at the age of 15, she decides to run away from home. The bar "Abba's" quickly becomes Jess' refuge. Here she meets all different kinds of people. Among others, many queers also come to the bar. These become victims of police raids again and again. At regular intervals, they are confronted with the hatred that comes at them from society.

Many of the queers are always struggling to survive and face different dangers. As time goes on, Jess falls in love with Theresa. A love story that is definitely not schmaltzy, but rather shows the adversities queers faced in 1960s America.

Or still love series and movies?

LGBTQIA+ Book Tip #2: We Fell in Love in October

In "We fell in Love in October" everything revolves around Lisa, who one day decides to break off her training as a bank clerk - much to the annoyance of her parents. And Lisa's boyfriend Max also has little understanding for the fact that she suddenly breaks with everything that seemed to be important to her before.

When she breaks out and goes to Cologne, she meets the tattoo artist Karla and thus dives into a completely new world. She also discovers her sexuality "along the way" and realizes that it is well worth fighting for your dreams. Ideal for all those who are perhaps struggling a little with themselves and wonder if perhaps another way of life would not suit them.

LGBTQIA+ Book Tip #3: Zodiac Love: Starlight in Our Dreams

Felix is enthusiastic about everything that has to do with astrology. Owen believes more in classical science. He is studying medicine and is rather skeptical about the stars. The first meeting between the two takes place somewhat "abruptly". Felix works as a student in a part-time job at a men's outfitter. When Owen enters the store one day, he is attracted to him in an interesting way. Due to the fact that his customer is anything but friendly, Felix gets more and more the impression that he has something to hide.

A few days later, the two meet again and begin to talk comparatively quickly about astrology. The conversation shows how different the men are. Shortly thereafter, Felix challenges Owen to a bet. He claims he can predict the outcome of Owen's dates - based solely on the zodiac signs of his date partners.

And that's when the action picks up...

LGBTQIA+ Book Tip #4: Raffi and His Pink Tutu

Who is interested in "Raffi and his pink tutu", people often think of a typical children's book. However, this is a misconception. Riccardo Simonetti has written a work for the whole family with this book. Raffi is a boy who loves to play soccer. But at the same time he loves his doll and his - as the book's title suggests - pink tutu. But because he is afraid that his classmates will laugh at him, he only wears the tutu within his own four walls. When he decides to be brave, he is bullied by his classmates.

However, his parents stand by him and show him that it is absolutely okay to be "different2 from the others. A beautiful message that shows how important it is to be able to rely on your family.

LGBTQIA+ Book Tip No. 5: Birthday - A Love Story

Birthday - A Love Story" is all about the friendship between Morgan and Eric. The two share the same birthday and certainly represent what many would consider a "perfect friendship" at the beginning of the book. At one point, Morgan realizes that although he was born a biological boy, he is actually a girl.

As the book's title suggests, their birthdays play an important role. The book covers a plot span of six years and repeatedly treats said birthdays as milestones on which the two either get along very well, discuss, argue and/ or become aware of themselves. Even though the book has been nominated for the 2022 German Youth Literature Award, this does not mean that it is aimed exclusively at teenagers. Adult readers are also likely to be enthralled by the story. Have a browse at Thalia after other books.
